Question 1

How fit do I need to be for this Nepal Bhutan tour?

Accepted Answer

You should be able to walk for three to four hours on uneven ground and manage a steep climb of about 300 m on the Tiger's Nest day. Most of the trip is sightseeing, drives and short walks, so no trekking experience is needed.

Question 2

Is altitude sickness a risk on this itinerary?

Accepted Answer

The highest point is the Tiger's Nest at about 3,120 m, reached on a day hike from Paro at 2,280 m. We keep the pace slow, and the itinerary gives you several days at moderate altitude in Bhutan before that climb. Symptoms are uncommon here, but tell your guide if you feel a headache or nausea.

Question 3

What are the hotels and lodges like?

Accepted Answer

We use standard to good tourist-class hotels in the cities and a jungle lodge in Chitwan, all with private bathrooms and hot water. Rooms are on a twin-sharing basis unless you ask for a single supplement.

Question 4

Can I charge devices and use the internet?

Accepted Answer

Yes, hotels have charging points and most have wifi, though speeds in Bhutan and Chitwan can be slow. Bring a universal adapter and a power bank for long drive days.

Question 5

Do I need travel insurance?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We ask all guests to carry insurance that covers medical treatment, evacuation and trip cancellation. Check that it covers both Nepal and Bhutan for the full dates of your trip.

Question 6

When is the best time to visit Nepal and Bhutan?

Accepted Answer

Spring, from March to May, and autumn, from late September to November, give the clearest mountain views and the most comfortable temperatures. Winter is colder in Bhutan but quiet, and the monsoon months bring rain and cloud.
